Does anyone know why we do not use the rail system to transport our food products more.?

Adan Stribble: that's dog's for you, but he thinks, well i'm a guard dog, loving pet, keep you company, takes you for walks, keeps cat's off your garden,phew!-you should be paying him a working wage!

Kizzy Hett: Airplanes have... um, "discomfort luggage" if youin case you will possibly desire to vomit. some buses and trains even have those barf luggage. i'm not conscious of any transportation provider which will grant drugs (different than for cruise ships), and maximum drugs might do no stable as quickly as you sense action ill. If the disenchanted abdomen is brought about by potential of something else, you're out of success so a great way as drugs is worried. If the transportation business enterprise gave you something and you purchased sicker, the conventional process issues interior the U. S. may well be to sue the transportation business enterprise. subsequently, no business enterprise interior the U. S. provides you better than sympathy....Show more

Ervin Ov! erbee: Processed goods ( ready to buy) are not hauled as much. The RR's do haul the semi trailers on flat cars. There still many bulk food items that are still transported by rail such as grain, wheat, corn, just to name a few.

Jene Licausi: A few reasons probably:1. Because of the forced proximity with other commuters the person is able to create a personal space and not be forced to interact in a situation they are not comfortable in.2. By pretending to sleep they can hog a whole sleep and not share it with anyone.3. Pretend to not notice anti social behaviour and be forced to do something responsible like report or intervene.Hope this helps....Show more

Sonya Volcko: It costs more per mile, that is why groceries chains have moved away from the rail system, used it for many years.

Russ Kiernan: I'd recommend giving it the same options as I did with all three of my now grown children. It is simplicity in and of itself, and no need for Dr Spock. Here's the! deal:The main gate to the property is green. It will close b! ehind you when you graduate high school or turn 18 years of age. And as it closes behind you, you will be off to higher education, off to a job or off to serve the country in the military.Ya know what?It worked for all three of them... got the first grandbaby on the way.But for our canine buddies different rules apply.Schooling? Nope. Can't teach an old dog new tricks.Employment? No dice. Every drug sniffing dog I've ever known has gotten hooked on the crap, and a service dog is not in your pooch's future, unless I miss my guess. Ditto for becoming a snarling dog of war...So, he'll have to earn his keep around the property you call home. Most mutts do. Mine do. But there are pitfalls here, so beware. None the least of which is the fact they refuse to use power tools... lawn mower, edger, chainsaw... Denied it, but they sabotaged them all... said the noise scared 'em. Odd... they have no qualms about using the vacuum cleaner..YOU are the ALPHA! Stand your gro! und but do not mark your territory inside the house! Life is already a giant pissing contest anyway... who needs any more?...Show more

Georgia Dees: They are jumping the train and hoping that the guard, or 'Train Manager' as they are now called on Network Rail, won't notice them and demand to see their ticket.

Renita Sefton:

Nilda Bafia: There is no longer one full track of railroad, say from NY to CA, a lot are privately owned. So this makes it harder to plan routes and also a lot more expensive. Some owners will not let their tracks be used also, so another handicap.

Darrel Stele: Wolf-Har nailed it. Commuter passengers are in their own little bubble and don't want to contact anyone or any thing. The West Coast AMTRAK is just the opposite. By the time you get to Omaha, you know everyone on your car and probably even some in the sleepers.

Asley Quickle: Teach him to grab womens bikini tops on the beach so you can return them, he'll pay fo! r himself in no time.

Mack Ukich: The rocking of the train and th! e rhythmic clickity-clack of the rails rocks you to sleep

Foster Koopmann: The most likely reason to be pretending to be asleep usually means they don't have a ticket, or a valid ticket. Some people do actually sleep on the trains and have done so myself on numerous occasions plug in ya headphones get comfy and away we go.

George Dingeldein: Because truck transportation is cheaper and it goes more places.

Toshiko Reimers: We do not have enough rail head hubs. I think that will be the future. When one truck has an accident it rarely makes the news except in the area it is in. When a freight train has an accident it makes the news. The trucks are perceived as safer. If we used more rail we would have to change the employment situation of a lot of people.

Phil Kuarez: what country are you talking about?

Ricky Frazer: My dog wont help out and pay the rent and he keeps saying he is but hes not what should I do? He doesn't have a job either!!!!

Irving Jordahl: you are right, truck transport costs a lot moreand uses many times more fuelhowever, there is a time factor, trucks can take a dedicated load from one place directly to another with very little delayRailroads can only do that with very large shippers that can generate enough loads to have a dedicated train....Show more

Elvin Weichbrodt: What a stupid question - and even more stupid when it's posted in the RAIL section

Arden Strachn: well we can use a plane or truckes but we still use train for Tropicana orange juice

Kenneth Queener: Passengers on a train sleep for any number of reasons. Some use their daily trip to gain an extra few minutes sleep, which isn't a bad idea. Others use at as a means of passing the time.I've seem people sleep out of boredom, once they've read all the newspapers and don't have anyone to talk to. Others would rather not talk or interact with their fellow passengers, and that's fine, too.Occasionally, I've s! een people pretend to sleep when they see the constables coming around ! to check tickets, and they either don't have the ticket, or stayed on for one too many stops (this can be intentional). The GO Transit special constables, from what I've seen, will actually wake the passenger up, so that idea doesn't work too well....Show more

Avis Brantner: This should take about 80-100 minutes each way via LIRR to Flatbush Ave (most of the time you will have to transfer at Jamaica) and the #2 or 5 train.

Bryant Chaudhry: Many bulk products, including produce and dry groceries are shipped by rail. Alot of it what is shipped cross country is shipped on rail either in intermodal containers, which are then put on trucks to be distributed locally or regionally, or it is shipped in box cars to local or regional warehouses, and then distributed by local trucking companies. If everything was shipped solely over the road, everything would cost much more. Rail is 3 to 4 more fuel efficient and environmentally friendly than trucking. One train can c! arry as much as 250-280 trucks, and one ton of frieght can be moved 400 miles per gallon of fuel....Show more

Dana Russian: To avoid other train passengers.

Olen Penhallurick: I'd have to ask which train. America's east coast commuter trains, I find people just climb into their little personal bubble and do everything they can to avoid contact with other people. It's just the opposite on western long-haul Amtraks, you're guaranteed to get to know all your neighbors!

Shamika Schools: The rail system is used to haul bulk agricultural products. The drawback is that the need for grain cars is seasonal. Conversely, coal hoppers and fuel tankers are used year-round. Rail companies tend to be running very short on train crews as it is. Adding more trains to the regular schedule would be very expensive in the face of the train crew shortages.

Terresa Tsasie: People are afraid to stare someone in the face the whole ride so they rather not have a confr! ontation with someone over them staring to much so they sleep or preten! d to sleep.

Darrin Hixenbaugh: I take it you are not in Canada, as a lot of container trains here, do carry food products. It is cheaper as a train can carry far more than a truck. (one truck = 30 tonnes, one train 9000+ tonnes).A train does not need to really stop for the crew to have a break as they are changed off at regular intervals.

Donnie Bolio: I want to go to college there next year and want to see if its worth commuting or finding a place in the city...the commute time is the largest factor.
