Cooking Turkey + stuffing separately... what should i make first?

Queenie Ruthers: Also, it could be dangerous to let stuffing sit for a long time at room temperature after you have cooked it. You could cook the stuffing first, put in the fridge, cook the turkey, then reheat the stuffing for 35 minutes while you are resting and slicing the turkey.

Jon Bergmeier: It's a tough one. Your turkey will need to rest for about 30 minutes (covered with tinfoil) once it's cooked, so you'll have 30 minutes but that's about it. If you cook the stuffing too early, it may be dry. What I would do is cook the stuffing with extra liquid/stock than you need and then cook the turkey. Once the turkey is resting, put the stuffing back in to get all the remaining liquid to evaporate. Hope this helps.

Dan Seen: .I always cook some stuffing outside the bird, so that there is enough to go around to everybody.I cook the turkey first. -- The bird should sit an hour after cooking before you try to slice it. -- The meat needs to "firm up" some, so it ! doesn't fall apart when you try to slice it. So... Then I put the stuffing in the oven after I take the bird out. that works out perfectly. The stuffing is still hot at the table and the bird is just right. Good Luck! ....Show more

Claudio Drullard: Cook the stuffing the night before!
